New series of GP webinars launches in 2021

St Patrick's Mental Health Services (SPMHS) is holding a series of six live Continuous Professional Development (CPD)-accredited webinars for GPs throughout 2021, featuring clinicians from multiple disciplines our services who will explore a variety of mental health difficulties.

Topics will include older adult mental health, adolescent mental health, self-harm, anxiety, self-care for GPs and coping with COVID-19. Each webinar will also include a question and answer (Q&A) session with the presenting clinicians.

GPs can submit their questions in advance by emailing communications@stpatsmail.com or during the webinar using the Q&A function on Zoom.

These will be CPD-accredited by the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), with points confirmed in advance of each webinar. Please note, CPD points are only available to those who attend the live webinar. Attendees will receive CPD certificates to the email address used to register for the event; please allow up to two weeks for receipt.

Understanding mental health in older adults

Tuesday, 30 March | 7.30pm to 8.30pm

Dr Aisling Collins and Edel Finnegan from our Older Adult Service will explore the diagnosis of depression in older adults, particularly in the context of the under-diagnosis of depression, and also look at older age psychiatry social work in practice. The presentations will be followed by a short live Q&A with the speakers and Dr Declan Lyons, Consultant Psychiatrist at SPMHS.

Impact of COVID-19 on adolescent mental health and service delivery

Tuesday, 11 May | 7.30pm to 8.30pm

Dr Aileen Murtagh, our Assistant Medical Director with Special Responsibility for Adolescent Mental Health Services and Dr Una Dennison, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at SPMHS, explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on adolescent mental health, followed by a live Q&A with attendees.

Self-harm: Psychoeducation and intervention

Wednesday, 26 May | 7.30pm to 8.30pm

Dr Kevin O’Hanrahan and Dr Ruth Goarke, Clinical Psychologists at SPMHS, deliver a practical self-harm psychoeducation presentation for GPs, as well as exploring self-harm interventions and how to respond to self-harming behaviours in the GP surgery.

Members of our Anxiety Disorders Programme team will explore assessments and referrals for anxiety presentations; the impact of COVID-19 on anxiety presentations; managing complex presentations of anxiety in the GP surgery; and therapy for anxiety disorders.
