GP blog on understanding anxiety disorders

Members of the Anxiety Disorders Team here at SPMHS, Judy Moran, Clinical Nurse Specialist and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist; and Frank Smith, Clinical Nurse Manager 2 and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, give an overview of anxiety disorders and discuss assessing anxiety disorders in the GP surgery.

Mental Health Commission Inspection reports received

The Mental Health Commission’s 2024 inspection reports are now available. Willow Grove Adolescent Unit achieved 100% compliance, and St Patrick’s Hospital Lucan achieved 97%. You can view these reports below. The report for St Patrick’s University Hospital is pending.

How to make a referral

To refer a patient to a programme at SPMHS, please follow this link. Patients do not need to be under the care of a SPMHS consultant to be referred to any of the programmes outlined above. Please note that the referrer retains clinical responsibility for the service user while they are attending a SPMHS programme. GP Webinar Series 2025: Understanding complex trauma

Our next GP webinar takes place at 7pm, Tuesday, 16 September. Dr Niamh Willis will explore how complex trauma presents in primary care, treatment options, and trauma-informed approaches. There will be a discussion of practical considerations for professionals wishing to work with people in a manner that is more trauma-informed. CPD from the ICGP is being sought for this event. Registration for this webinar will open in the coming weeks on our website.

Explore our new online research collection

We recently launched SPIRE, a new online collection of over 20 years of research and 500 mental health-research related items. SPIRE (St Patrick’s Institutional Repository) is the first online repository in Ireland to bring together an exclusive collection of mental health-specific research from Irish researchers at SPMHS, Trinity College Dublin and more.
