In the fourth instalment of the 2026 GP Webinar Series from St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS), Philip Kenny, Clinical Triage Coordinator with the Addiction and Dual Diagnosis Service at SPMHS, and Imelda McHugh, Addiction and Dual Diagnosis Services Manager at SPMHS, will provide a clinical overview of addiction and dual diagnosis on Wednesday, 7 October at 7pm.
The hour-long webinar will explore the following topics:
- How to recognise and assess alcohol withdrawal symptoms in the GP surgery
- Community-based alcohol detoxification
- Criteria for escalation to medical oversight and inpatient detoxification services
- Community addiction and recovery supports available, including mutual aid and peer-support programmes.
GPs will also gain valuable insight into the referral pathway, triage decision-making process and the factors that influence timely access to specialist treatment. Practical guidance will be provided on the essential information required to ensure efficient triage and streamlined patient access to addiction services.
