Little Women film screening

This image shows symbols of classic literature, particularly the novel Little Women.

Service users here at St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS) are invited to attend a film screening of the 2019 adaptation of Little Women on 6 January 2022.

Based on the classic novel by Louisa May-Alcott, Little Women chronicles the lives of the March sisters – Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth - during the 19th century. It describes their different personalities and fortunes as they emerge from childhood and into womanhood, raised by their loving mother while their father is serving in the American Civil War. The highly-regarded 2019 version of the film was directed by Greta Gerwig, and stars renowned Irish actor Saoirse Ronan along with Timothée Chalamet, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and many more.

As part of the First Fortnight Festival 2022, our service users are invited to read the classic novel over the Christmas period before attending this film screening, which takes place at 5.30pm and is then followed with a panel discussion. We have copies of Little Women available for service users who would like to read the book. with information on how to get these being shared directly with service users.

First Fortnight is an annual mental health and arts festival which runs across Ireland every January. It hopes to mark the beginning of each year by raising mental health awareness, challenging prejudice and ending stigma.

Please note that, to protect against COVID-19, the event is open only to inpatients of our St Patrick’s University Hospital campus at the time of the screening.

We are running two more events for First Fortnight 2022: find out more here.
