Cistin evening of music and poetry

This image shows symbols of culture and the arts, including musical instruments like a guitar; pens, paper and writing material; and a theatrical mask.

Enjoy a cosy evening of music, storytelling and poetry with the annual Cistin event from First Fortnight on 13 January 2022.

Cistin is the Irish word for "kitchen". Every year, this event hopes to evoke the sense of traditional gatherings around the kitchen table with old and new friends for nights of song and conversation.

In 2022, Cistin is coming to us from the west coast of Ireland, where curator Susan Quirke is hosting a very special line-up from her home in Clare to warm our hearts in challenging times. Susan is a singer/songwriter, musician and meditation teacher, as well as an award-winning social entrepreneur for her work in the field of mental health.

As well as enjoying songs from Susan's debut album Into the Sea, attendees will hear from Colm Mac Con Iomaire. Colm is a celebrated musician (known especially for his fiddle-playing), composer and founding member of much-loved Irish acts Kila and The Frames.

Also joining Susan and Colm in the kitchen will be Enda Gallery, a singer/songwriter and musician with traces of Prince and Frank Ocean in their work, and award-winning writer and eco-poet Grace Wells.

Cistin takes place online from 7pm on Thursday, 13 January.

Culture and mental health stigma

We can all come together to build a culture without mental health stigma. We invited people to share messages with us about what this culture would mean to them.
