St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS) invites GPs and healthcare professionals to a webinar on pharmacology and medication in mental healthcare.

“Understanding pharmacology and medication management in the treatment of mental health difficulties” is the first instalment in our GP Webinar Series for 2023. The series covers a wide range of mental health topics for GPs and healthcare professionals.

Taking place from 7.30pm on 18 January, Ciara Ní Dhubhlaing, Chief Pharmacist, and Dr Sarah Casey, Senior Registrar and Clinical Lecturer, both team members here at SPMHS, will discuss pharmacological options for patients experiencing mental ill-health and mental health difficulties. Short talks on specific treatments such as anxiolytics, antidepressants, anti-psychotics and mood stabilisers will be interspersed with question and answer (Q&A) opportunities to ensure participants get maximum benefit from the session.

The hour-long webinar will focus on evidence-based options, dosing regimens, side effect profiles, monitoring and emergency presentations. Participants can submit their questions in advance by emailing communications@stpatsmail.com or during the webinar using the Q&A function on Zoom.

Recognition for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is being sought from the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), with any points available to be confirmed ahead of the webinar. Please note, CPD is only available to those who attend the live webinar. You will automatically receive your CPD certificate to the email address used to register after the event – please allow up to two weeks for receipt.
