Supporting Parents to Support Their Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing

St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS) and the National Parents Council (NPC) are hosting a joint webinar for parents on supporting children's mental health.

The webinar celebrates the launch of a new online training module for parents, guardians and carers from SPMHS and the NPC, Supporting Children to Support Their Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing. This course can be accessed on the NPC website, learn more about the training here.

Taking place from 11am, the webinar will explore:

  • The factors that influence a child’s mental health and wellbeing
  • The risks arising in and outside of school for children’s mental health
  • Ways of building and nurturing resilience and supporting positive mental health in children.

The hour-long event will focus on children’s mental health, discussing the the role of the parent or guardian in supporting a child’s mental health. Strategies and tools that parents and guardians can use to support their child’s mental health, as well as their own mental health, will be shared, as well as information on the ways in which the NPC works to support parents in encouraging and promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in their children, including further learning and training opportunities available to parents.

Speakers include Paul Gilligan, Clinical Psychologist and our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Áine Lynch, CEO of the NPC. The webinar will be hosted and moderated by mental health content creator, Jan Ní Fhlanagáin.

There will be time for a short question and answer session following the speakers' presentations.

This webinar is recommended for parents and all those who are caring for a child of primary or secondary school age.
