In the first instalment of the 2026 GP Webinar Series from St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS), members of our Mood Disorders Team here at SPMHS will present on the topic of assessing and treating depression disorders.
General Practitioners (GPs) in Ireland play a central role in managing depression, acting as the primary point of contact and handling over 90% of mental healthcare in the community. With roughly one-fifth of the 25 million annual GP consultations in Ireland relating to mental health, GPs are crucial in early detection, diagnosis and treatment.
This hour-long webinar, presented by Áine Whyte, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Sean Lonergan, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, will cover the following topics:
- Understanding mood disorders and depression types
- Assessing a depression disorder in the GP surgery
- Managing and treating depression disorders and recurrent presentations
- Guidance on referral and signposting options for treatment.
This webinar will provide a guide on best principles, practices and approaches to supporting someone in their recovery journey from depression.
GPs can submit their questions in advance by emailing communications@stpatricks.ie or during the webinar using the Q&A function on Zoom.
CPD will be sought for this event. Points available will be confirmed closer to the time of the event.
