The Living Through Distress Programme is aimed at service users who find their emotions difficult to regulate. Participants often report urges to self-harm or carry out behaviours that are self-damaging.
A set of 8 skills (based on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) are taught and practiced so that participants develop new ways of dealing with intense or distressing emotions. Sessions are held three afternoons a week over a six week period.
There follows one group a week for four weeks and then one group a month for four months. Referrals are made through the multi-disciplinary teams.
This programme is available for inpatients and day patients.
