The winner of our 2025 Favourite Painting art exhibition and competition has been named as Dave West.
Favourite Painting is an annual exhibition and competition held by our Art Committee here in St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS), involving artworks submitted by several well-known Irish art galleries. Our service users, staff and visitors are invited to view the exhibition in the Arts Space of St Patrick’s University Hospital (SPUH) or online, and to vote for their preferred artwork.
Dave’s painting, Sublime, Beara, was submitted to the competition by the Doorway Gallery. He was announced as the winner of Favourite Painting at a ceremony held in the Arts Space of SPUH, having received the highest number of votes across both online and in-person polls.
Our Chief Executive Officer, Paul Gilligan, and Director of Communications, Advocacy and Service User Engagement, Tamara Nolan, spoke at the event, which was attended by members of our Art Committee, service users, staff, and a representative of the Doorway Gallery. Dave also shared a few words about the inspiration behind Sublime, Beara and what it means to him to have the painting recognised in this way. His artwork will now be added to our permanent collection and displayed on campus.
We’d like to congratulate Dave and the Doorway Gallery, and to thank all the artists and galleries who contributed to Favourite Painting 2025, as well as everyone who took the time to view the exhibition and vote for their favourite piece.
