The Culture Date with D8 festival in 2026 is hosting an event with Dr Brendan Twomey to be held in St Patrick's University Hospital (SPUH).
Join Jonathan Swift scholar Dr Brendan Twomey on 6 May for a talk on Gulliver's Travels.
Gulliver’s Travels was written in Dublin by Dr Jonathan Swift, the Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral Dublin, and the founder of St Patrick's Mental Health Services. Published in 1726, this year marks the 300th anniversary of Gulliver's Travels, and the book has since been available in more languages and versions than any other book by an Irish author.
This event, organised by the Culture Date with D8 festival, will take place in the Lecture Hall of SPUH from 6pm on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.
Dr Twomey will speak on the themes of the book, explore its relevance today, and more. There will be a short guided walk of the exterior of the Historic Building here in SPUH, and guests will be invited into our Boardroom to learn more about the history of the hospital building and see a range of artefacts relating to Swift.
Tickets are free, but registration is required through the Culture Date with D8 website here.
The event is open to members of the public, and our service users.
