The Building Strength and Resilience programme is an online group programme for service users needing support in adapting to change and building resilience.
The group is facilitated by clinical nurse managers and focuses on skills such as cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mindfulness, and solution-focused goals. Each group is facilitated by two clinicians.
How is this group structured?
The programme takes place via Microsoft Teams for one half-day per week for six weeks, with a recap session after two weeks.

Introduction to resilience
- What is resilience and what does it mean to you?
- The five pillars of resilience.
- Personal model of resilience.
Self-awareness
- What is self-awareness?
- An insight into the behavioural aspects of self-awareness.
An introduction to mindfulness
- What is mindfulness?
- The myths and misconceptions around mindfulness.
- Mindful listening.
Self-care
- What is self-care?
- Myths and impact of self-care on overall mental wellbeing.
Building positive relationships
- The importance of relationships, interpersonal skills and maintaining relationships.
- Communication styles and how to deal with conflict.
Fostering purpose
- Steps for strengthening your purpose.
- Values and goals.
Recap group
- A review of the group topics and how group members are engaging with material they have learned throughout the programme.
Who is this group for?
This group is suitable for individuals who:
- are an outpatient attending the St Patrick’s Mental Health Services’ Dean Clinics or associate Dean Clinics
- are signed up to Your Portal
- are presenting with difficulty to adapt to changing environment and poor self-efficacy
- can attend group programmes on MS Teams.
Referrals
This programme is currently available only to service users under the care of a consultant psychiatrist in SPMHS. If you are receiving care in SPMHS and are interested in taking part in the programme, please speak to your multidisciplinary team to access programme suitability. All referrals will be processed and screened by Dean Clinic clinical nurse managers.
