Secondary analyses of anonymised data collected during past studies on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is underway.

The research team at St Patrick’s Mental Health Services (SPMHS) is conducting a secondary analysis of data collected as part of three historical studies on ECT which took place in SPMHS.

The three studies falling under this analysis include:

  • The EFFECT-Dep Study: enhancing the effectiveness of ECT in severe depression and understanding its molecular mechanism of action (Protocol 12/07)
  • The KEEP-WELL Trial: KEtamine for dEPression relapse prevention folloWing ELectronconvuLsive therapy: a randomised pilot trial with blood biomarker evaluation (Protocol 05/14)
  • Effects of ECT for Depression on Decision-Making Capacity (Protocol 02/14).

These data are now anonymised. Therefore, this secondary analysis does not involve processing of any personal data. The secondary analysis received approval from the Research Ethics Committee in SPMHS (Protocol 08/22).
