How can I access Day Service Programmes?

Any inpatient or anyone attending a Dean Clinic or Associate Dean Consultant can be referred to specified programmes or individual therapies within the Wellness and Recovery Centre. Some programmes begin while in hospital and some are dedicated day-only programmes.

All programmes require a referral form from your team or health professional.

Some of our programmes are now availble via direct access for those under the care of services other than SPMHS and under the care of a GP. For more details read about Direct Access Day Programmes.

What happens once I am referred to a programme?

  • You will receive a letter confirming receipt of your referral and information on who to contact with any queries.  If you are an inpatient at the time of referral, this will happen post-discharge.
  • Your insurance eligibility will be confirmed (this takes up to 3 days).   Programme costs are covered by most health insurers (except ESB, Garda and Prison Officers’ Scheme.  Some insurance companies (Glo and Aviva) require an excess payment per attendance on some of their policies. We will inform you if either of these cases apply to you.
  • Our Programme Coordinator will contact you with an appointment for assessment or a start date.
  • Before beginning your programme, please register with our Day Services Administrator at main reception.  The registration process is relatively quick and requires you to sign an electronic pad.

Where can I get more information?

  • Talk to your key worker or any member of your multi-disciplinary team.
  • Visit the Information Centre which is located in the main reception area of St Patrick’s University Hospital.

Day Service Programmes primarily take place at St Patrick’s University Hospital but programmes are delivered throughout St Patrick’s and St Edmundsbury campuses.

Some of our programmes are linked to a specific mental health diagnosis and others are based on the need to develop tools and coping strategies linked with experiencing mental health difficulties.

The atmosphere of the hospital is very bright, cheerful and friendly. The staff are excellent, uniformly helpful without exception and a credit to the hospital
There is a very good atmosphere at St. Patrick's. Communication is very good between patients and staff and should be maintained on an informal basis. Food is very good and is a very good morale booster for everyone. I would like to thank everyone in St. Patrick's for input and kindness while I have been here
I had 10 unforgettable days with prime quality care and facilities. Most of all, I've met really nice people and hopefully not being wrong made some friends. Good work, keep it up

Personal Stories

I came to hospital feeling broken and despairing and leave now feeling renewed and well and looking to the future.
Excellent staff have finally helped me overcome my illness with the correct treatment and also using the recovery psychosis programme which opened my mind to what I suffer from.
The first steps are the hardest but once you gain a little momentum you will be amazed at what you can achieve
The atmosphere of the hospital is very bright, cheerful and friendly. The staff are excellent, uniformly helpful without exception and a credit to the hospital
It was a turning point in my life and a good one. I will always have fond memories of my stay here because the overall feeling was of peace.
