Journey with Dignity is a policy document produced by the Consumer and Carers Council of St Patrick’s and St Edmundsbury Hospitals which outlines the Council’s views for a service user centred service at St Patrick’s Mental Health Services.
Journey with Dignity represents the views, hopes and aspirations of the Consumer Council members and the service users they have engaged with over a number of years, for a Hospital that is:
- A place of care, comfort, safety, refuge, respite and recovery of service users: A sanctuary.
- A place where all non-clinical services i.e. reception, administration, admission, accommodation, catering services, housekeeping, gymnasium, checkout/discharge are maintained to high standards when compared to similar services in other customer-orientated organisations.
- A place where mental health services at consultant, registrar, nurse, therapist, management and administration level work as a team and are driven by the primacy of Service User respect, equality, dignity, freedom, safety and care.
- A place where the Service User leaves with a high positive view of their stay in terms of care, comfort, safety, refuge, respite and recovery: centred on a system of proactive care.
- A place where the Service User has an active and positive participation in his/her recovery.
- Ultimately their stay should be a “Journey with Dignity”.
- The document was reviewed and ratified by St. Patrick's and is activley implemented.
